In a future dystopian society, citizens are defined by their personality's affiliation to one of five factions: Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the kind), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest). On one appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-old young adults must take a placement test and later select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives.
